Software Engineer & Educator
Maldives (Remote)
I grew up on an island in the Maldives with very limited resources. In grade 8, we had no concept of the internet. After completing my O-Levels with a few passing subjects, I got my first computer with just 32MB of RAM. This was the beginning of my love and interest in computing.
I moved to Male for work, but finding life in the city challenging, I enrolled in hotel school primarily to escape the urban environment. The greatest benefit was unlimited access to the computer lab. After completing my studies, I worked at Coca Island Resort - my first experience in the hospitality industry. Though the resort was busy, I treasured my free time playing guitar and using the internet and computer lab.
Eventually, I left the resort industry and returned to Male, working in a small shop where I befriended members of the "Bosniya" gang and learned to play guitar. After being let go for my gang associations, I joined the Human Rights Commission as a Contract Survey Manager, traveling to islands with new friends.
Later, I worked as a Service Center Manager at a motorbike shop in the same area, enjoying the experience with different motorbikes. I then accepted a position at Albion Store as an Inventory Controller, where I began automating processes and reorganizing the logistics department.
Simultaneously, I developed websites for a company called "atoll-tech," creating sites for government and private clients. Recognizing my potential, Albion Store provided a fully-paid scholarship to study Software Engineering at HELP University. After earning my bachelor's degree, they encouraged me to pursue IT work, leading to my first software engineering job at MPL.
At MPL, I contributed to developing the entire Finance Module and worked as a Senior Developer on the Port Management System. Eventually, I wanted to return to island life and found remote work that allowed me to live with my family in our island home.
I'm now a seasoned software engineer with over 10 years of experience, specializing in enterprise solutions with a focus on HR systems and Oracle technologies.
I founded the WeLearn Institute to help aspiring developers in the Maldives gain the skills they need to succeed in the tech industry. My HR software solution has been successfully deployed in numerous government organizations throughout the Maldives, including all Courts, Stelco, and Maldives Ports Limited, helping to modernize and streamline their operations.
